धर्म जीवन की शाश्वतता को आधार मानकर
चलता है
धर्म तपस्या को ही सर्वोपरि नहीं
मानता, न शारीरिक सुखों के
निष्प्रयोजन, परित्याग को महत्त्व देता है
।
वह जीवन को आनन्दमय देखना चाहता है ।
आनन्द इन्द्रिय ग्राह्य भी हो सकता है और
आत्मिक भी । इस तरह का कोई भी आनन्द धर्म
की मर्यादा में निन्दनीय नहीं है ।
इसी तरह धन-सम्पत्ति आदि भी अपने आप में
कोई पाप नहीं है । धर्म इसके लिए रोक नहीं
लगता, लेकिन धन संग्रह करने के उपायों से
किसी दूसरे का अहित होता हो तो वह
धर्म की दृष्टी से निन्दनीय है । धर्म इस तरह
के प्रयत्नों को बुरा बताकर उन पर रोक
लगता है और सही मार्ग बताता है ।
इसी तरह उत्तम सन्तान लाभ के लिए विवाह
करना, धर्म द्वारा अच्छा माना गया है ।
किसी भी रूप में धर्मपरायणता, सुखभोग,
सम्पत्ति, विवाह आदि जीवन की पूर्णता के
अवरोधक नहीं हैं, जब वे आत्म-कल्याण और समाज
हित के लिए किये जाते हों, लेकिन जब इनका
प्रयोजन जीवन की समृद्धि, विकास से दूर
हटकर अपने आप में केन्द्रित हो जाता है, तभी
ये अच्छे नहीं माने जाते ।

Dharma neither regards various forms of
penance such as, religious austerity (e.g.
fasting) as supreme nor attaches any
importance to meaningless renunciation of
physical pleasures.
Intention of Dharma is that individuals should
experience bliss and happiness in their life.
Such happiness could be spiritual as well as
material [experienced through senses]. None of
such happiness enjoyed within the boundaries
of Dharma should be seen as condemnable.
In itself generating and maintaining wealth
isn’t a sinful act. Dharma never prohibits such
acts as long as the means used; do not harm
other people. If the means are nefarious, such
goals [generating wealth etc.] are condemned
by Dharma. Dharma identifies such acts as
being evil, forbids them and shows the right
way of doing things.
